Rovanperä will step down from WRC and will continue drifting

2023 Drift Masters competitor Kalle Rovanperä will step down from a full program of World Rally Championship events next season and will drive a Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 in selected rallies through 2024.

Next year I will have a bit more free time, so maybe I will see you guys on some drifting events!

The 23-year-old’s decision means he will not defend the second world title he won this season.

There are a few reasons for that, but the biggest reason is that I’ve been driving a rally for a really, really long time. I just found that was a good moment to take a bit of a break, recharge the batteries and have a bit of time off to focus on the future and to have more energy and more push in the coming years. I understand it seems we are really young, and it hasn’t been so long in the WRC category, but I’ve been driving for a really long time – I don’t know, six or seven years with the full season, even in the smaller categories. Of course, when you’re young and most of the time has gone in the rallying, it feels a lot, so I think it’s a good moment to have a bit of reset.
